Surya

One of a large number of names in Sanskrit for the Sun. It is used in some of the Vedic hymns in which the Sun is praised. Some of the other names used are Arka, Bhāskara, Ravi, Savit, and Vivasvat. An immense stone temple at Konarak, in the form of a chariot drawn by carved horses and covered with a proliferation of carved images, is dedicated to Sūrya.
