Kwan Yin

(Kwan Shi Yin). The most popular female deity in China, equivalent to the BODHISATTVA AVALOKITESVARA. She is often depicted holding a small vase from which she is pouring the elixir of life. She appears in Japanese Buddhism as Kannon. Her iconography is reminiscent of that of Mary in Christian iconography. Helena P. BLAVATSKY considers Kwan Shi Yin and Kwan Yin as the male and female aspects of the same principle.
