(1856-1890). An important early theosophist, born July 6, 1856, at Cocanada (now Kakinada), in the Godavari District on the Coromandel Coast of eastern India. Subba Row was an Advaita Ved€ntin of the Niyoga caste of Smārata Brahmins (Sk. Brāhmana); his native language was Telugu. His father died when he was six months old and he was brought up by an uncle.

WHILST presenting this little volume to the public, we cannot but pay due tribute to the memory of one who had done such good service to the cause of Occult Science. The late lamented Mr. T. Subba Row, B.A., B.L., of the Madras University, was one of the highest Occultists of Southern India.

NOTES ON THE BHAGAVAD-GITA, by T. Subba Row, B.A., B.L., was first published in The Theosophist — the magazine founded by H. P. Blavatsky and Col. H. S. Olcott, at Madras, India. The first lecture, entitled 'Introductory,' was delivered at the Convention of the Theosophical Society held in Madras in 1885.

T. Subba Row (1856-90) was an earlier member of the Theosophical Society. He was greatly impressed by the work of Madame Blavatsky’s “Isis Unveiled”, and entered into correspondence with her.
