The term is used to describe the relationship between a human MONAD and that of the presiding DHYANI-BUDDHA of that monad. The two are inseparably linked throughout births and incarnations.
Every human monad is part of one of the SEVEN RAYS, the group of DHYANI-CHOHANS from which human consciousness is derived. They are also called the Seven Sons of Light or Seven Stars. Thus, it is taught that the Star or Dhyani-Chohan under which a monad is born will forever be connected with it throughout the manvantara.
Helena P. BLAVATSKY wrote that “the Dhyani-Buddha will be either the guiding or simply the presiding ‘Angel,’ so to say, in every new rebirth of the monad, which is part of his own essence, though his vehicle, man, may remain for ever ignorant of this fact. The adepts have each their Dhyani-Buddha, their elder ‘twin Soul,’ and they know it, calling it ‘Father-Soul,’ and ‘Father-Fire.’ It is only at the last and supreme initiation, however, that they learn it when placed face to face with the bright ‘Image’” (SD I:573). She calls this presiding entity the Angel-monad.
It is this relationship, according to Blavatsky (SD I:574), that Jesus referred to when he spoke of “My Father is greater than I” (John 14.28); “Glorify yourFather who is in Heaven” (Matt. 5:16); “The righteous will shine . . . in the kingdom of their Father” (not our Father) (Matt. 13: 43) “Know ye not ye are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (I Cor. 3:16); “I ascend to my Father, and your Father” (John 20:17).
In the mystical novel, Zanoni, by Bulwer Lytton (Bk. IV, ch. ix), the author spoke of Zanoni being face to face with his Augoeides (cf. SD I:573). This is perhaps an inspired insight into the relationship between a human being and the angel-monad.
